Default Adjust for thicker wood??? LS super position-er

Anyone using the Incra LS super position-er, how do you adjust for wood thickness that is not included in the plan book?

Hey JapanDave, the only time you need to worry about the wood thickness is when you do double through dovetails. I hope that helps?

Also JapanDave, another thing you should be aware of that if you get the inch increments as well as the metric you will have a much wider range of choice for what joinery you wanted to do. Just thought I would mention that if you did not already know?

Thanks for that tip JapanDave, I was wondering about why there was no double through dovetails for the metric conversion. I will have to ask Incra if they are planing this anytime soon.

Anyway JD, I will keep you informed.

Also I just received another LS-position-er that I could use for my dedicated router table. I was thinking of using the metric for the saw and the inch conversion for the router. What do you think I should do?

Firstly, it would appear that there are two JapanDaves?

Secondly, I asked Mark Meuller this very question and he emphatically said to stick to one standard.

LOL, One JapanDave, I am just schizophrenic. I was meaning to ask the mods if I could give myself rep points for the great answer I gave myself in post No.2? LOL

That was the answer I got as well after this thread did not produce any answers. I rang Incra USA and got it direct from them.

As I said above, I just bought a second positioned so I can inter change on the table saw with out having to go through the process of attaching the router fence everytime I want to use it. This way I can use the saw and router anytime, without having to make all the cuts first than go to the routering. Well worth it IMO.

Guys... just keep in mind that metric LS requires metric router bits! Similarly, imperial LS must have imperial bits!

If you have two systems -> 2 sets of bits! - Expensive!

Before you buy the metric bits, make sure they are indeed metric! We've come across "metric" bits that are simply labelled metric with dimensional conversions (e.g. if a set contains a 12.5 dia bit then most likely it's imperial size and won't work mith the metric LS!)

Rob, if I am not mistaken, the metric system need inch bits not metric bits. My metric chart only has sizes inch bits.

    Hi JapanDave...

Yes, the dovetail bits are inch sized but the straight bits are metric! irrespective though you must use the Metric Addendum to the Master reference guide...

Remember, the lead screw in the positioner is metric and will position the bits using metric spacing. If you use inch straight bits for box joints, the spacing will be out and the joint won't join...

I would also strongly recommend that you use bits (straight and dovetail) that are of very high quality and designed for the Incra system. The Master Reference gives several brand and bit model nos including CMT. If in doubt, give Grahame a call at Professional Woodworkers Supplies - he has Whiteside brand boxed bit sets (metric straights with imperial dovetails).

As I've said before, it is critical that the straight bits are actually metric!

Yeah, the Whiteside metric combo is of very decent quality.

    You can't go wrong.
