Im building an extension at the moment, part of which will sit on stumps and bearers. Whilst generally the builders seem pretty good there are a couple of things that don't look quite right to my inexperienced eye.

1. The stumps are sitting directly on concrete pads, fixed with only one light weight 90 degree zink angle which in turn are fixed to the pad with one gold passivated dynabolt. The timber for the stumps is offcuts of the h3 treated pine being used for bearers and joists. I would have thought anything in contact with the ground should be h4 and fixings / brackets etc should all be galv. (in addition we are in a coastal location)

2. similarly ant caps have been specified althought the builder says that because the stumps have been housed out to accept the bearers there is no way of including them in the design.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated and any references to building codes or standards which would either settle my mind (or settle an arguement) would be great

Regards
