    Default Treating treated pine battens

    Hi,

Can anyone offer some advice as to whether it would be recommended to treat treated pine battens before laying Merbau boards over the top. The battens have been laid over existing AC sheeting that provides a waterproof area below the deck. I was thinking of painting them with Dulux Weathershield to increase their resistance to water etc

    Regards,
    Tom

    Hi Mate

Don't paint the battens with a solarguard or weathershield as this will be more hurt than good....the water will get in where the nails or screws break the paint on the top side...the paint then traps the water inside as it can't easily evaporate out except through the nail holes (which aint gunna happen) In the industry nobody that i have seen does any thing but you could either oil them or stain them to give them some protection... the coatings will last for ages as they are out of the sun....
