    Default bits and bob's !!

hello folks here are some of my more recent efforts

first is a piece of bog oak-i have been looking for a large piece of this wood for ages and i finally find this, its 14" long by 6" wide and 1" thick.

this is a piece of burr elm turned on multiple centres using a 6" vacum chuck
this piece was about 28" wide by 14- 16" high and 2" ish thick

next is a piece of walnut its 16" high by about 9" at its widest- turned wet in one session.
    mounted between centres

    roughed into a cylinder.

    part shaped.

    3/4 holllowed outside shape done.

    hollowing the last bit.

sanded to 400 and 1 coat of oil applied.

and last a lignum vitae box with 22tpi hand chased thread

    Hi Cornucopia,

    You have been busy.

Bog Oak I have not seen much if any of that for years, very effective treatment of it.
Iike the others as well, rare these days to find chunks of Lignum Vitae. It would be one of my favourites to turn.

    thankyou for all your comments
the threads are hand chased with a pair of thread chasers- it takes a bit of pratice- you slow the lathe down to 250rpm ish and the chase the thread onto a prepared rebate. you get a male and female chaser and they come in size's from 6tpi to 38tpi.
