Yep an onother excellent forum get together put on by & Julie. These guys go out of their way to make everyone feel welcome and I cannot say enough in appreciation
Just to make up for the missing choccy ripple cake that someone didn't get time for , Julie made an absolute rippa . Each biscuit was presoaked in alcohol, then the cream, then the lot covered in chocolate flakes. Wow what a kick . Talk about decadence and no hope for any of us in diet mode .
Thanks also to the other demonstrators and providers of many grippy things. Very educational and entertaining. The whole weekend was well worth the trip.
After I thought most had gone I got on the lathe, only to find the experts peering impatiently . I demonstrated perfect catches, tear-out, chatter patterns (without chatter tools ), maintaining center dimples, heavy bases and a few other minor details

Ken, thanks to the advice you gave me on the knobs I managed to get them perfectly centred. I've attached a few pics of the new (fitted) and the old. The new ones are in Jarrah to match the bench. The knobs that came with the vise are Osage Orange, these were drilled slightly off centre.
I wish I could get a better finish off the tools but I am just glad I turned this without the skew digging in
Thanks again Ken

For anyone who is interested I mounted the djembe on my Jet 1642 today and gave it a spin. Bugger all run out at the ends and < 5mm in the middle. You never know I might even get it finished by Christmas so I can givet to my son as last years Christmas present. I just have to find someone who has a steady big enough to hold it .

So the next GtG at your place Dave we all sit and watch you?? Mind we are all still waiting for the carving demo.
Yes we would all love a Business workshop set up the size of 's I guess or someone in Sydney with one. Maybe we can get a few local business to put on a similar show.

I would like to thank Jim, Ken and Bruce for their time and information.
Thank you to all who attended and I hope that you learnt something.
I know I did. Many years ago I used hot melt glue and had so many failures that I haven't touched it since.
1st mistake. It was in winter. Timber too cold. Remedy: Warm up timber before glue application..
2nd mistake. I used it like normal glue and put a ring right round the base of the timber. Remedy: Leave an air gap so that faces can meet and the air can escape.
Simple really.
