Extreme woodturning Noob...
I've been looking at getting a lathe for the last couple of months for things like tool handles and small bowls so I decided on the Woodfast M305. It arrived on Monday and I had some time to chuck a small piece of scrap on it and make a bit of a mess. That was fun so I decided I should attempt something useful.
The result today, my first turned piece since I made a single lamp at school about 25 years ago, is a small plane adjusting hammer.

It was made from scraps of recycled hardwood that are due to be burned on Friday night and I think I spent as much time sanding as I did with the tools to get a decent finish on it. Lots to learn and the proportions look a little weird but it does the job for which it was intended and feels good in the hand.
So here's to another thing in the shed to distract me from the major projects...

Nice job!
I also returned to woodturning, after a 40 year gap.
It has given me a whole new reason to buy more tools!Cheers,
Steck

Keep it up, you get better with practice & the sanding time will get less.
Cliff.
If you find a post of mine that is missing a pic that you'd like to see, let me know & I'll see if I can find a copy.

Thanks for the comments guys.
I'm planning on heading down to Oyster Bay for the Southern Woodturners open day next weekend so hopefully I'll learn some new techniques. The next step is making one of the fancy grinding jigs to keep these chisels sharp.
