EZ Grip Handwheel
What do you think of my new handwheel for my 1640?
My wood hauling Bomb Trailer had a breakdown. I couldn't find seals to fit it, so I mounted the wheel on the offside of my 1640, and at about 150 rpm, turned out the hub on both sides to fit available seals.
I used my Oland Tool, with a 3/16 cutter, to turn it out. I also had to turn down some metal spacers that hold the wheel off the spring shackles. I must say, I'm surprised that I could get this done... by hand... as much as I shake.

...very nifty and resourceful.
While you have the wheel on there, may as well give it a sand and polish

It'll be great if you ever need to move the lathe. Just push it over, grab one end and off you go
Cheers,
Dave...but together with the coffee civility flowed back into him

Cool customer to do that!!
Lot of weight hanging out there. I would have taken the tyre off. But then I would not have thought that would work anyway.

Wolften, Ern, good ideas, but too late.
Dave. you gotta good mind! Cracked me up.
Artme... too lazy... besides I'm not strong enough to do that with just tire tools.
Hughie, when I was turnin' it, I thought of how easy it would be for you...

You'd want to tread carefully with a thing that size on the lathe; if the bearings are a little tired, they could let go. Then you'd have to haul your carcass off to an industrial area where biased bearing sellers ply their trade. Still, think of the fine beads you could turn with nice new bearings!
.
I know you believe you understand what you think I wrote, but I'm not sure you realize that what you just read is not what I meant.
Regards, Woodwould.

There's a lot in a space eh MJ?
BTW, that bit of ancient kauri is now dry, after a year.
Will approach it with fear and trembling ....Cheers, Ern
