    Default Tri-point woodturning tool

I have been watching a Youtube video featuring Guilio Marcolongo highlighting texture on a lidded box using a tri-point tool. Cannot seem to find these tools being sold in Australia.

    Can anyone help?

I know Ashley Iles and Crown make one but might I suggest you make your own? Just posted a thread with my own efforts at one ... you just need to source a piece of HSS ... seems 6-10mm are the most common diameters used. To help with guiding your grinding I just jam fit a hex nut onto the bar over some tape and then ground it while making sure the shape of each side looks similar. As to what angle? - seems to be all over the place as I have seen some that are really stubby and others that are quite pointy. Bill Jones doesn't specify any details of the angle in his books but after reading both his books I am sure his answer would be along the lines of "whatever you are comfortable with"

Mike Peace also has a video of his effort on youtube ... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AMogaU6aiI8

A worn or new #3 Phillips screw driver and 10 minutes on the grinder.
So much timber, so little time.

    Thumbs up

Interesting tool rest in that Mike Pearce video. Useful for resting the front hand on and I would think this helps with tool control.

As an after thought you may like to watch Guilio in this video, if you have a spare hour and a half. He is doing this demonstration in America. I always enjoyed his demos at the Working with Wood shows-
