Been trying to remember where I had seen this article on Urn threads made from PVC fittings, and I just remembered that it was very close to y'all.

Ok, I would have thought that for spreading the crematorium supplied container would have been adequate. But that's the buyers choice.

In any case another way to secure the lid rather then with threads would be to do what is done to attach things like tools to a Cuisinart food processer. Make a lip on the base, cut three square notches in it. Make the top with a lip as well and cut away the lip leaving three matching tabs. The lid can then be inserted, turned and you have a secure top. You'd need stops on the base lids but that would be easy to glue into place.

Also depends on what is supplied by the crematorium. Locally it's a plain plastic brick (functional, but a bit ordinary), unless you pay quite a bit more (some very expensive) and the alternatives on offer still don't appeal to everyone.

I've been happy to be able to spend a few hours making an urn for a family member or close friend that will only be used for a few significant moments in their life journey. My experience has been that this is an important time for their families and a personalised urn is valued by them.

Even made one urn recently with a close friend who has now used it. We sort of made it together while he was still well enough to participate. We had a good afternoon in the workshop together. We joked that it would be his best suit for a bit! More his style than the plastic brick.

    Default Thanks for the help

I would like to thank everyone that has answered my question. It has lead me to think out-side my own little box and turned me in a different direction.(no pun intended) After talking it over with the nephews parents we have decided to go with the fitted bottom idea, something I had not even concidered before.

Again thanks to all that helped me with my quest and now off to the lathe!!!!!

    Regards
    Greg

    Your welcome....
Post a pic when you finish, or along the way.
