    Default A box in progress

At last, back into making boxes.
This one is blackwood front, back and sides, curved Tiger Myrtle lid with banksia ends. This is prior to cutting the lid off. Will post when done. Sanded to 400# then 6 coats of Ubeaut Traditional wax. First 4 applied with 0000 steel wool, last 2 with a soft cloth with buffing between coats.

Thanks mate. I usually sand to at least 1000# as well but out of paper above 500.

I tried (stupidly) to do the hinge mortises freehand put them on crooked then because they were brass screws the heads got slagged out. then I tried to drill them out and only succeeded in driving the drill through the lid
spent the last 2 days designing and building a smicko jig for the router table..hopefully I'll get it right this time. And it MIGHT live again...

Hinges, how many mass produced hinges open squarely anyway?

I avoid using them and cannot afford the top end ones.

These are top end. Bought them when I could afford them. nice and tight and square. I just let the drill drift off centre...
