A Couple of My Recently Completed Boxes (pics)
Thought I'd post some images of a couple of my recently completed boxes.
The legs on the first box are curly maple, as are the drawer fronts. The carcass is curly cherry, although the cherry looks (for now) very similar to the maple. The cherry will darken with time and make itself discernable from the maple. The drawer handles are jatoba.
The second box represents my first attempt at placing doors on a box. The door panels are bookmatched koa, the carcass is curly maple and the legs and drawer fronts are jatoba. This was also my first attempt at wooden hinges - they are made of lacewood. I have a book that outlines the making of a number of different wooden hinges, and I am pleased with how these turned out.
Like with all my projects, there are several mistakes present, but I have tried to conceal them as well as possible.
Thanks for looking.

Great work Molarman. Wonderful to see a bit of variety from our normal lidded boxes.

I'm floored! Those are absolutely stunning. As good, or better, than anything I see in Fine Woodworking magazine.
I congratulate you.
I'll never be that good.

Ok, I'm throwing my tools away. Shezzz....those are beautiful. I'm not sure if I have the imagination to even think up something that unique. I'm still trying to make things square or rectangular.
Oh, well another picture to save to my files to try when I really want something fancy.
Great work. Show us more.

Beautiful work! I like the designs. Have they been made with a particular location in mind, or was it more for just the project.

Hello and Welcome. This is about the best forum and group of people sharing woodworking projects that I've seen. Your boxes are very nice. The style, concept and design are pleasing in appearance not to mention the various woods used. Might I ask your source for wooden hinges? I've done a few, carved and on the router but I'm always open to ideas.
Us yanks here in the U.S. tend to confuse our neighbors down south with our wierd "english meas" system. So don't be surprised if they say "huh" to inches

Welcome Molarman. Assuming you're a dentist I guess woodworking smells better that rotten teeth .
Excellent work mate. I particularly like the contrasting timbers.
