Default Cutlery Box - Hints, Tips, Experiences, Advice?

I've been commissioned to build a cutlery box.

I'm interested in anyone's experience in building one of these.

The case will be three drawers plus a lift up lid, with the drawers being divided rather than using a specific layout. Fake suede or velvet for lining. Dovetails. Drawers easy to pull out completely. Wooden drawer supports rather than metal drawer slides. A light brown timber rather than rich brown, pink or red. He's given me the internal measurements and layout for the drawers, which helps a lot. The whole chest will end up being within 400 x 400 x height yet to be determined.

So, I thought Tassie Oak or Blackwood but nothing majorly figured.

I think I'll have to use false drawer fronts and was also thinking about how to curve them so that the handle would be a cutout in the drawer front - I thought this would be nicer than having a drawer on the table with a handle sticking out.

The finish will be one of shellac, wipe on poly, organoil or another oil. It just depends on which one he selects from the test board piece I'll be doing for him.

So, how are false drawer fronts attached?
How on earth am i going to line the compartments as I think he'd prefer attached linings rather than inserted linings.

Any other hints, tips, experiences and advice?

    Thanks

    Wendy

i would glue/ screw the drawfronts from behind were it will be hidden by the velvet lining. you could get thicker draw fronts than neded and plane down the edges to create the curve and carve the home in the front for the handle.

i buy my velvet from spotlight and attach it with spray adhesive works out a lot cheeper than buying the sticky backed stuff. you can also incorperate a thin layer for foam to make it softer.

have you any ideas on making the draws slide right out. i saw a good desighn at the twww show that allowed the draws to be pulled right out without them falling down at the front it is a bit hard to explain but it used a faulse slide i can do a drawing if you want.

id do it in blackwood i just prefer it to tasie oak.
