The document box
A simple document box in red cedar. I chose red cedar because silver fish (silly name for an insect) and cockroaches (no comment) will not eat paper stored inside cedar containers. It is big enough to take an A4 sheet and designed to look like a book. The front and back is vavona burl veneer, very brittle and difficult to handle. Settled for brass hinges instead of wooden hinges. The inlay bandings were shop made too.

Jim, this looks great. Well done. You should be proud of your work.

If he gets it without working for it; he's a parasite; and if he accumulates it after a life time of hard work, people call him a fool who never got anything out of life."

Very nice box Jim. Is the lettering gold leaf or marquetry inlay?

Bill, I took a short cut and used imitation gold leaf lettering.

legendary stuff. And those document boxes are so useful too. All the important papers go there and don't get lost.
Well done. Hope to have a go at a document box soon.

Wild Dingo, the inside of the box will take an A4 sheet of paper.

Great job Jim! Did you have any troubles with glue weeping from voids in the burl if there were any? I know how brittle that stuff is.
How does that brass catch work? Magnetic?I know not with what weapons World War III will be fought, but World War IV will be fought with sticks and stones.
