Default Hi all here is box#2 with inlaid rose

Walnut trim, and insides. The stem is Walnut Burl. The leaves are Oak and I dont know what the rest of the wood is. All the wood is veneer except for the trim and it is finished in a brush on laquer and sanded smooth. Also The design of the rose was found online and my wife drew it up for me.

Nice looking work. I must have a go at inlay veneer some time.

If he gets it without working for it; he's a parasite; and if he accumulates it after a life time of hard work, people call him a fool who never got anything out of life."

Nice work both 1 & 2. Looks like you get crisp edges on the inlay, some how to tips I'm sure would be appreciated by us novices.

    Cheers Mike

    Default how to

Thanks for the comments, but I assure you that if anyone is a novice it is me. This site had the most useful guide on how to make Marquetry cuts http://www.marquetry.org/hows_it_done.htm I use a variation of the window method listed on the site. I use transfer paper to get the drawing onto the back side (the paper side) of the veneer. I make all my cuts from that paper side of the veneer as it usually gives a cleaner cut on the wood. My cuts are not perfectly crisp by any means but once it is glued down, sanded and lacquered the gaps between the woods all but disappear (lucky for me). Anyway, check out that site and let me know if you have any questions. Next box I will try to do a how to with pictures.

    Thanks again for the comments!
