    Post Timber Suppliers

Happy New Year to all. I am new to box making having only made storage boxes for the shed and a couple of blanket boxes with simple joints. Now I am looking to expand a little and try my hand at jewellery boxes etc. My quest is to find a supplier of either rough sawn or milled timber of various spicies. Any help would be appreicated.
    Cheers

    Depends on where you are.
Some companies like trend timbers will mail order.

I buy my stuff from Malcom Ward at boutique timbers at rolland's plains near tele point.

At one time Lazarides (sp?) offered wood dressed to size for a box making project in Australian Woodsmith, so they are worth a try.

Pasho I sell Paulownia. It is a soft whiteish timber that is easy to work with and will stain easily to produce different finishes. I grow and mill it on my property just south of the Qld. border. I can produce timber to your specifications either rough sawn or DAR. Have a look at my web site www.paulownia-timber-sales.com.au for more details about me and paulownia. I don't mind selling small quantities.

If you are going to head south of the border, try Stan Ceglinski, Mullumbimby Slab Factory and Timberall as well.

They all have a wide range of timbers and sizes.

The last time I was in Carba-Tec I noticed they are now selling small kits of different outback timbers for making boxes. Probably not the cheapest option but perhaps the most convenient.

To extend this thread a bit are there any suppliers of quality timber in inner Sydney that would be able to supply a piece of 1-2 inch thick 450x600? The project is to build a cutting block top for our freestanding dishwasher. We may even look into commissioning an woodworker to build it for us.

    Jason,

In inner Sydney you will not do any better than Anagote at Marrickville, Renwick St I think it is.....if they don't have it they can get it.

when i started woodworking it was hard to find timber suppliers that could supply desent seasoned timber in short lengths for box making also many of the sizes box makers use are considerd "unusual".

this is why i baught a sawmill and started cuttign timber for use specificly by woodworkers.

if ya still looking for a suopplier i am happy sell short lengths and i cut to "unusual sizes". and i will beat any price a timber yard will give you.
