Just Another Wierd Box
Pinched the idea of laminated off cuts set at 45 degrees and tried to make a different lid. Like the effect but not happy with the tolerances. A bit "gappey". Can't tell you what the laminate is made up of but the posts and top frame are New Zealand Birch.

Like Watson, I don't find it weird at all.
I think it is very attractive and a novel desgin.
Good way to use up some of those off-cuts

Another unusual box from DIY DAN. I like the lid better than the box. It shows a clearer pattern than the box.
Did you fasten the lid at the top of one post so that you swing the lid to open the box?

Detlef,
Yes, but the lid is not fixed. It can be removed completely. It's just a dowel in a hole in the post.

Very Cool.
I really like the diamond pattern on the lid. If you had had the same pattern on the side of the box with strips that went from bottom ouside corners and met at the top middle where the point of the lids diamond does it would be even cooler. Diamond tip meets diamond tip.
A great looking box. How many hours did you put into that one?“When we build, let us think that we build forever. Let it not be for present delight nor for present use alone. Let it be such work as our descendants will thank us for; and let us think...that a time is to come when those (heirlooms) will be held sacred because our hands have touched them, and that men will say, as they look upon the labor and wrought substance of them, ‘See! This our father did for us.’ “ --John Ruskin. Audels Carpenters and Builders Guide, 1923 Theo Audel & CO. New York.
