Default What is blonde shellac/super blonde shellac?

How do these differ from the regular shellac? Why is super blonde shellac called super blonde?

Blond is lighter in colour, super blond lighter again, astra is even lighter again. All will discolour the timber to a certain degree Astra least of the 3 Gets more expensive as it gets lighter. Sold in flake form with a fairly long shelf life if kept cool and away from light.

Bleached white shellac and dewaxed white (bleached) shellac shouldn't change the colour of the timber any more than wetting with water. Can be purchased in powder form but has a short shelf life if not properly stored. Most shops have no idea or the wherewithal how to store it properly. Best purchased in liquid form. Around 18mth to 2 years shelf life.

Hope this is of some help.

    Cheers - Neil

    Definitely helpful, thanks!

Edit: Is the clarity of the shellac related to its purity? Eg. Super Blonde has less wax/foreign matter than blonde, etc
