Default Help with spray painting required please

Having purchased a compressor I decided to give spray painting ago. I am aware of the beginners problem of over-spraying and getting runs so have been careful not to do this however I'm not real happy with the finish.

The finish feels like 180 grit sand paper and not the smooth (no brush strokes) finish I expected. So I'm definately doing something wrong but I don't know what .
    Can anyone help ?
    Regards,
    G.O.Varvey

What is it you are spraying? Sounds like acrylic.. If it has a gritty feel, lower the air pressure on the gun, or maybe stand a bit closer to the surface.

It sounds like the paint is drying before it reached the surface..
I try and do new things twice.. the first time to see if I can do it.. the second time to see if I like it

    Raised grain?
Does it do it with each subsequent coat?
    Sand/denib between each coat?
