    Default Picking your brains!

    Hi all,

Just a quick note to introduce myself -I'm Ann from lovely Lincoln UK, and I'm a relatively newly-graduated conservator/restorer, although don't let that fool you - I'm a long way past being a 20-something (more's the pity!). I've actually been dabbling for years but finally decided to get a qualification and do it 'officially'.

I'm in the process of setting up my own business and need all the wood refinishing tips and wrinkles I can get (no, not that sort of wrinkle - have plenty of my own thanks!). I'm not aiming to specialise in wood but am rather hoping to cover a wide range of materials and objects. A lot of the objects I come across do have a mixture of materials including wood very often.

I've been looking through the past posts and am amazed at the wealth of information and help that you all share so freely and I hope I can join in. By the way, if anyone needs info on conservation or restoration of other materials - ceramics, ivory, copper etc - just holler!

    Regards
    Ann

    Hi Ann,
We fear Ozwiner's foil hat is getting tarnished.
    How do we restore it?
Do we have to take his head out first?

Well Bob, in conservation terms it often happens that one object can adversely affect another by giving off substances which can react chemically and cause deterioration.

I'm afraid the only sure-fire way to cure the problem is to remove said offending object from the vicinity of the affected piece.... ....carefully, of course.

    Regards

    Ann
