which sand paper for timber slab?
Hi all,
I'm going to be sanding back a tallowood slab for a dining table. I noticed the other day that that white sand paper comes in different types depending on the sanding which got me thinking. What type of sand paper would be best for the initial sadnding right through to when i put a few coats of varnish on them? do i use a 80ish in the alumium oxide stuff and then go through the various grades and finish with a wet and dry?

Hi Gordo78
I've just finished a redgum table and used mainly klingspor and norton paper. I started off at 80-120 with a belt sander and worked my way up to 400 before applying HBO and then sanding to 2000 with a 1/3 sheet finishing sander. (haven't got a ROS). I used wet and dry for the 800 - 2000. The table turned out very nice and SWMBO is very happy. (therefore I'm happy).
I've used the prager stuff from bunnies when I suddenly run out and it's ok but I tend to go through a lot of it.
Check out the Sandpaper man (one of the forum sponsors). Sanding and sandpaper is their bread and butter.
Cheers
Bryan
