Default Wax and water problems kitchen bench

Hi, we just installed a new kitchen and decided to stain the compressed bamboo benchtop, then polish over with wax. It was cooler weather and the wax coat was thick and we didn't polish the wax in straight away. So buff as much as we could later, the surface had lines where wax was thicker and touching leaves leaves finger marks etc. We tried buffing with an electric buffer/wool pad with no success.
The other problem is we're encountering water stains around the sink and other high use areas.
Any suggestions? We were thinking we might have to cut/sand back to the wood (dark stain could be a problem also) and apply a different sealer. Unless theres another way to deal with the wax.
    Brent

Sorry mate I think waxing your kitchen benchtop is just crazy. Where did you get the idea from? You should use oil based polyU or other similar products.
