    Default Fret ends

When beveling a fret end, is there any rule to what angle you shape it to, what ° ?

I rounded off the fret ends on my last neck and this one i want a bit squarer.

    Thanks
    Greg

As far as I'm concerned, its a personal preference. For a long time now, I have been filing my fret ends nearly flat( just a slight angle ) with the side of the neck then rounding them over. I wouldn't do it any other way now.

Seems a waste to bevel a 35 degree angle on and reduce the fret area where you need it most.

    Cheers

Yeh i guess it makes a lot of sense to have maximum surface. Ive been playing for 35 years or so and ive never really taken much notice of other guitars until last year. Im definitely going to go with the 35° angle on this one but who knows, it could be the last.
    Thanks for the angle though.

That is a handy angle file geoff.

Im with Fletch. I file pretty straight and then round over. Takes a bit longer but looks good and feels good to play.

The last neck i made, i just kept running my hands over it and filing it down till it felt nice and flowy. To me, it seems ultimate. Hmmm?
