Recent build
Hello to everyone on the forum. I stumbled across this forum a while ago after a link from the "Project Guitar" site. I have been following all the builds with great interest and am really glad to see so many people making awesome guitars here in Australia.
I have built several guitars over the last few years; RGs, strats, teles, LPs, a King V, 3 N4s and various upgrades to BC Richs, Ibanez and others. But after seeing what some of you do I still aspire to greater builds.
I just thought I would post a pic of my last quick build. On Wednesday last week a friend of mine came up from Sydney with his busted/rusted RG 570. He wanted a new body and a LP bridge with strings through the body. He went home Friday afternoon with the guitar done.
Hope the photos attached OK and that you like it, thanks for reading.

Hi,
Welcome to the forum. Definitely an improvement I think. Would love to see some of your other builds.

It was finished in Tru oil, which I found out is great to use. It built up to a sheen really quickly but Niff wanted it to be a matt finish so when it was completely dry we used 50% nitro over teh top. I wasnt sure of teh compatabilty of the 2 so we tested on scraps we had applied finishes to earlier and they worked fine together.
Here are a few of my other builds, not all but some. I dont have an y pics of my earlier ones, pre digital camera Im afraid.

Very nice , Nekul.
The V looks great as does the RG. Sometimes simplicity in the body department really makes something special, and such is the case with the RG.
Good builds.
You're a member of PG as well aren't you, Nekul ?
The name sounds oddly familiar
cheers, Stu

That is impressive, building a guitar in 3 days.
What are you working on now?Scally

Hi Nekul,
ahhhh 3 days for a body, set up etc, that makes for about 2 per week, thats a lot of posting you're going to be up for.........
Seriously, looking good. The V has caught my 9yo's eye,

THanks for all the positive comments. Like I said, I started years ago but havent had much time the last few years to get done everything I want.
Oz Tradie, I totally agree about simplicity of design. I built a Jem once and not only was it a pain to make it was a pain to finish. I felt compelled to put every bell and whistle on it and it did my head in. I am really liking simple, clean designs and getting away from 80s paint jobs (although I still have a few of those I want to try). And yes, Im on PG, as Nekul. Dont post much though.
As for Sebastiaan's comments re posting, my wife and I just had our first baby. There is no chance Im getting that much done. In fact, more likely there will be only 1 more before holidays finish.
Which brings me to Scally's question about what Im doing now. I have about 5 more of these bodies rough cut in silky oak. Unfortunately the timber is not the prettiest, it has a few imperfections Im not happy about but you cant complain about free timber too much, right?
I also have one of these bodies stained red and cleared with a 25" neck/bound ebony fretboard and 25 frets. I am just finishing the back of the neck. It has a Schaller, SD JB and Hot rails and one volume/pickup selector knob. Its pretty simple but I dont particularly like the finish so I am thinking about scrapping it and just doing another body similar to the Ibanez one in my first post. Once I get this design down I have a nice piece of Zebrano for a body.
But, after seeing all the timbers you guys use I think Ill be sticking to Aussie timbers from now on.

Yeah, the Vee is a lot of fun. I didnt make the neck on that one though. It was an Ebay job. My wife needed to get me a birthday present a few years ago and I couldnt think of anything so I got that neck. Its not bad but like all those necks it needed dressing badly.
