Found an old shop display board and made it fit onto my workmate. Prototype 1 is alot simpler than what I was planning. Two parallel rails, one perpendicular centre board, one slot and using the router fence guide started testing some timber Im going to plane for my first 2 builds...a tele and a custom double cutaway.

Results not too bad but I need some adjustments. I also want to modify so I can also use a belt sander with it and an electric plane.

    Prototype 1 - Router only.

    nice one

though i would set up the parallel rails as close as possible so tht the perpendicular length on which the router sits on is minimised ...otherwise there could possibly be a little 'sag' in the middle of the board leading to a slightly deeper rout around tht area

tht would be the one thing to make as rigid as possible
    Looking for

    1. fiddleback mulga - 1" thick, 3"wide, 26" long

PM if you have for sale!

That piece of MDF is pretty stiff. But I comletely understand the issue. I think I can add a support on the left side where the router guide slides to stop any bowing. I need to make mods now to accomodate the electric plabe and the portable belt sander.

You can never have too many ways to plane a surface!

here's a drawing of the router jig:

though it prob takes as much effort (if not more) to build this jig as it is to build a guitar!
