The later Australian made Stanley planes seem to have had some quality control issues. Some good examples as well as some fairly ordinary ones.
I think that folks after an Australian made plane will be better served by
Falcon Pope,
Carter and
Turner.
Falcon Popes are very reliable and Turner beautifully finished. Carters can be a little hit and miss, but good honest planes none the less.
My first ever plane was an Australian Stanley 4-1/2, and it was wonderful.
I did everything that I could with that plane until I could afford another and it was a Stanley 220 block plane.
Good times.
