I thought the same thing Stu.
Have you tried yours out and if so, is there any discernible difference between it and say a Millimess? Other than it being huge!

Hi Bob,
As yet no, I'm not working in the shed ATM other than cleaning(well ok three little jobs ). I'd say given my tests with DTI's, the biggest difference will come from the stand. So the Sylac with a Mahr would come close...........Not sure I have a Millimess in my collection. But 0.00001" beats a Millimess anyway lol. I'll have to get a 0.000001" one day

Mattias Kristiansson has a short YouTube clip about these gizmos, he gives an example of its use and opens one up to show some of the inner workings:

Perhaps the absence of backlash is the advantage over a normal indicator?

In the larger ranges I think the low hysteresis would be helpful if it was on a soggy noddle stand. Given the stands they use I'm not sure how much difference is makes............ but then when you're trying to split a 1/10th of a 1/10th of a 1/10th..... I guess you need everything going your way.

it might...... or maybe I should wear my glasses more?
Neither is something you would want to drop on your toe, in fact you wouldn't even enjoy resting them on your toe. Now you know why I wanted it posted in a separate box to my other goodies. The CEJ weighs in around 8kg, the sylvac 10kg

Picked this up from Germany a bit over a month back...
Looks very good and works perfectly...Light red, the colour of choice for the discerning man.

Hi Peter,
Could be, though it has a "newer look" than mine.
I've no idea if all displays work with all heads. I know you have to adjust the gain if you replace the head.
Here is a gloat I'd like but wont but getting anytime soon.

Was at the local markets today. I picked up these:
federal1.jpegfederal2.jpeg
I paid $30 for it, works well. Now just need a stand and a job to use it on. And:

I was also gifted these by my father-in-law, they came via his father:

They are mainly brass (I think) and will come in handy. I haven't checked what thread they are but probably BSW or that type. I think they may be from the electrical power plant at Kanwal (Central Coast NSW) as the Grandfather worked there for sometime. The box is from his war days, he was a Artillery gunner at Darwin in 1943 - he finished the war stationed at Hiroshima.
