    Me too Derek,

I have ordered the new parts (still die cast) but I am getting on quite well with my modified fix. It is safe - which is the main thing. I am working on the kerosene running lamps for the front of the loco. Kevin (Handyjack) got me some prototype photos of the lamps of the era. Pretty happy how they are coming up. Cathie's at her girlfriend's today so full steam ahead in the shed. Should have some photos by tonight.

    Regards

    Keith

    Hi All,

I am very happy with the outcome of my kerosene running lamps. Thanks so much to "Handyjack" for getting me photos and details of the type of lamp used in the era of my loco. These are the types of components that are missing from the locomotive at the Railway Museum.
I have made the lamps removable as they were in the original loco.
The body is made out of pine. The top flat section is MDF. The top stem and cap is made out of aluminium tube and solid aluminium that I domed in my lathe respectively. The stem is doweled into the MDF by turning up a dowel that fits snugly in the pipe and then into a 6mm hole in the MDF and pine. The handle is made out of 2mm wire. I found the globes in Bunnings, they were not cheap - they are HPM 0.5W LED globes, but the domed front looks exactly the same as the lantern face in the details "Handyjack" sent me - so I had to get them. Need another 2 for the back.
The locating brackets are pine. I cut the recesses in the back using my table saw. The recess is 5mm deep to suit the lantern attachment.

It is now starting to look like a locomotive.

I think I will now look at attaching the front buffer plate and getting rid of my clamps. There is not much more I would need to do with the buffer assembly removed.

    Regards

    Keith

Front end certainly looks fantastic Keith be better as you say when the clamps are gone. Will not be long before you start the cab detail which I can imagine could be a long process.

Will look at removing the clamps and arranging a permanent method of attachment. Difficult to know where to start in the cabin. Whether to make up all the handwheels first or start on the firebox - maybe a bit of both. Thanks for your comments Derek

    Looking "Brilliant" Charlie.
Just my thought in the cab start with the firebox.
The door is probably the largest feature in there, and once in place everything else scales off it.
    If you get my drift!.

    Cheers Mate

    Hey Mate,

We are thinking along similar lines - was gonna start with the firebox but hadn't thought about it as the scale datum point. Great idea. Thanks Trev

Here is a photo of my loco with the clamps removed. I have also added lubrication lines to the glands on the piston cylinder/s. The front buffer plate is removable which should assist a bit if I have to transport - although it is pretty big. I am now into the cabin. My mate says that my numbers and makers plate which I drew up should be ready tomorrow. They are being laser etched. Can't wait to see what they look like.

    Regards

    Keith

    Looking good.
Notice you have rail guards, but should probably end closer to the rail head (once the model is on rails).

    Thanks Kevin,

Will review after I sit on the rails. ( A fair way to go before I reach that point)

    All the Best

    Hi All,

There was a bit of communication breakdown on the size of the lettering and numbers for my loco. He did a sample which looks really good but too big. Should have the final laser etched items tomorrow. The numbers will be raised gold with appropriate gold borders and the background black. Slow work on the loco - although have started some work on the firebox. Next door neighbour came and asked me to do a wood work project for him which took a couple of days. Need to keep the neighbours happy

    Regards

    Keith
