First attempt to find a suitable handle is a bit of a failure.
The saw plate is quite narrow and as Paul warned, deep set.
I could probably modify the George Bishop handle to fit?

Pete
I think you have summed up the problem with the width of the saw plate. Even a narrow full-sized 26" saw was around 6 3/4" deep.
I suspect Dave's saw is probably only just over 5" deep. I think you will have to look at handles suitable for a panel saw as those proportions will suit it better. You can always scale down what you already have, but the thing to avoid is having the guard of the handle level with the tooth line.
I will see if I can dig out the Atkins panel saw I have. I will have to work out how I can scale it for your purposes.

If you can photograph it nicely, I can scale it. I just need one reference measurement. If you place a ruler under the handle when you take the pic, it should be good.

Pete. Have a search through these pdf saw handle templates; http://www.tgiag.com/saw-handle-scans.html
Suggest you may need to consider reshaping that heel on Dave's saw plate.

Don't sweat it mate, work first.

The most suitable handle I can find so far is the Seaton Tool Chest Saw, as the grip sits high and it has plenty of meat forward of the grip. Probably will need to adjust it and maybe trim the saw plate some too. I'm still not sure if the teeth will be low enough to clear the handle.

Pete
I don't know how this is going to go because I had to do some work on the house while it had cooled down a tad, then I realised I was hungry and by the time I got to take pix I had to use artificial light and everything looks wrong not to mention difficult to read.
Anyhow the first three pix are of a full size Perfection handle:
Perfection handles 007.jpgPerfection handles 001.jpgPerfection handles 002.jpg
The distance across the inside of the handle hole is 92mm.
This Perfection handle is from a 24" panel saw:
Perfection handles 003.jpgPerfection handles 004.jpgPerfection handles 008.jpg
The distance across the inside of the handle hole is 85mm.
Lastly from an Atkins 20" panel saw but not a perfection handle:
Perfection handles 005.jpgPerfection handles 006.jpgPerfection handles 009.jpg
Distance across the handle hole is 76mm. Sorry, but I didn't have a small handle in the perfection style. A word of caution here is that the smallest handles are an uncomfortably tight fit on my hand which is only a touch larger than average.
Here is hoping you can work with this info.
