How to hold 1mm drill bit in drill press chuck?
Hello, can anyone please suggest ways of holding a 1mm drill bit in a chuck on a drill press, that is really designed for a 2.5mm minimum diameter. I need it dead centre of the chuck too, to drill very fine pilot holes in timber.
regards,
Dengy

How about another smaller chuck in your drill chuck, like this one.

I dismantled small old battery drills to get the chucks out and they can usually hold small bits.

You can buy a pin vice which holds tiny drills and will fit in the bigger Chuck.

I bought one of those mini drill chucks specially for 1 mm drill bits. The one I have, the drill bit scribes a circle of 2 mm, NOT happy.
Ended up using another chuck that goes from zero to 13 mm, spot on now.

I have a set like this, they come in very handy for really small drill bits.

I have a pin vice, with one body, and four switchable collets, going right down to zero mm. It's made for hand use, but occasionally it is nice to put the mini-drill bits in the drill press. The big handle at the top of the pin-vice comes off and I mount that in the drill press chuck, pretty much like other suggestions here. If I was using it more often, I would definitely get one of those mini-chucks. They look quite nice.
Good things come to those who wait, and sail right past those who don't reach out and grab them.
