OMG domino Tenon any good
Are they any good? I know not a lot can go wrong but I just want to make sure they are milled to the right thickness to get a tight joint.
Thanks

My only concern would be that Tassie oak moves a fair bit so maybe would expand and contract more than the standard Dominos?
Cheers, Dom

They'll be totally encased by the stock they're joining so I wouldn't worry about any expansion or contraction. Why not make your own? A bit of work on the tablesaw and router table and you can have a heap in no time at all. Old hardwood floorboards, or off-cuts of new ones are ideal for this. Just make your stock in longer lengths and then cut it to finished length as you need them.

Well it is OK if the tenon is too tight, but if it is too loose then you will not have a joint.
I use a lot of dominos so I am not interested in making them myself. It is not worth it.Visit my website at www.myFineWoodWork.com

We're talking about something that's 6mm by 40mm, I wouldn't worry too much about shrinkage due to environmental factors. The glue will swell the tenon to some extent anyway. If it's the consistent quality of the manufactured size you're worried about and you end up unhappy with them send them back. But, yeah, I understand that it is always nice to have a recommendation from a current user.

I saw these the other week (was it a Timbercon email?)
I'm like you Wongo, I use heaps of these beasties.
Be interesting to get a review.

Isn't the whole deal with the original Dominoes that they are compressed timber?

I’ve been buying them from porta direct for two years haven’t noticed a difference in strength or fit however unless your using commercial quantities i don’t think they’re much of a saving cost wise
Some people are like slinkies - not really good for anything, but they
bring a smile to your face when pushed down the stairs .
