I love the walking sticks. I am lucky enough to have my great grandfathers walking stick he whittled/carved during WW1 at galipoli.

It is not the neatest looking stick but it is somewhat a family heirloom as you would imagine.

    PS Welcome back!

Would you explain what "cane Segments" are and how you use them.

cane segments are 3 inches tall (sorry don't know metrics) and 2 inches square to start with, with a 5/8 hole thru the center the long way. You sign up for a swap and carve 8 segments, then each month or so (or sooner if the carvers are ready) you swap a segment with another carver....you end up with 7 segments by other carvers and one of your own...two swaps or 16 segments plus a top and bottom piece make a respectable walkingstick....for show really not for use, but they are attention getters and fun to participate in. A friend saw one of the ones I had completed and got all excited about my "folk art" guess they are or will be one day! We also do a "round robin", one segment, you carve one corner and send it off to the next guy on the list, he carves a corner and passes it on etc...each one does that and when the segment you started gets back to you, its done and you keep it....thats fun to...and a challenge, you only have a small corner to carve on. sorry its so long winded, kind of hard to explain the process with out lots of words lol...

    Default cane segment swap

Sorry I left off the address for the cane segment swap if anyone is interested....

http://carverscompanion.com/ go the the W3E swap block and look in there, lots of different kinds of swap.....great site, Matt Kelly runs it and does a lot of work to keep it going......the one most of us click on is the "secret pal" swap, you get a carving from someone, and have no idea who until you get it...I have participated in 14 I think so far...and have a great little collection of some neat carvings.....anyway, there it is if you are interested. Dave
