Thread: Double sided tape

Very handy for doing hinges.

The golf shops have a tape that they use for attaching grips. Thin and it sticks.

The Bunnings stuff is terrible. It isn't thick enough! Thick doesn't affect anything when using 6mm MDF for templates. I get mine from a craft store- Jacksons- over here. Routers can press the tape pretty firmly to the 2 sides so thick is good for templates as thin can make it almost impossible to separate the MDF from the timber, My craft store stuff leaves no residue, can be used a couple of times and if you forget to remove the template it can be separated the next day, although I always use a Japanese cats claw for this to avoid marking the timber.

The wife uses double sided tape for her card making all the time and she got me some from K-Mart or Big W

Forget about all the cheap stuff from Bunnings and others there is only one tape to use and that is 3M VHB industrial tape. Many years ago I was involved in structual tests carried out with this tape at Curtain University WA in the attaching metal to metal in Aluminium Cladding of building facade application of and its perfomance was outstanding.

Thanks everyone for your input, I should explain that I would want to use the double sided tape on a temporary basis while I cut out a template or something similar. I don't want the tape to hold permanantly.

I get mine from Riot art shop. Good quality, available in several widths.

I get carpet tape from the tape section in Big W - its only a small section with the hardware. Sometimes it is out of stock.

Its sticky but not a permanent thing (the longer its left, the harder to remove). Its got fine mesh in it so needs to be cut with a sharp knife.

I've used it for table routing against a template for curved chair legs. A perspex base for my old circular saw, that sort of thing.

This would have to be the best place place to get any sort of adhesive tape. Bought some 3m vhb some time ago and they were most helpful.
