Through bitter experience I learned to avoid lending books/ tools etc to people. So I have the following sticker which I stick on all my books and magazines and a similar sign on my shed door and one inside the shed. If from a conversation I gather that a mate needs an item, it is for me to make the decision of wether or not I want to lend an item. So before they can ask, the sticker/sign has given them a reply. Many times taken for a ride.
