LOL.
Was searching for exactly the same thing.
Looking for a Kreg K5 for less than the Carba Tec price of $220.
If one actually exists.Thanks,

I have bought and successfully used the Pocket hole jig that Screw-it sells. I bought a special kit they had where, in effect, the screws, drill and driver were added to the jig (priced against an equivalent jig at Timbecon) for about $10. It may not be up to the level of the Kreg, but it worked very well for stuff where I was happy to use pocket holes. Screw-It are Forum Sponsors as well, FWIW
Cheers

Didn't realise it was so new.
Even though the lady tells me she's be happy to buy it for me IF i'd use it. Doh!
Oh well.
Just can't justify the cost.
Even when someone else is paying for it.
Don't know if that reveals something about me or about the price.
Yes an expensive tool.
And the Au $ at an all time low.
So $220 (without the $45 face clamp) at CarbaTec is the best NEW price at the mo.
One guy at CarbaTec Melb tells me 5 fully paid and waiting a few weeks for stock.
Another tells me 100's fully paid waiting for months. LOL
One or two projects every 3 or 4 years.
Oh well, will have to make due with the $65 two hole jig I got years ago. Thanks,

Kreg K5 is not new all all. My bad.
Sold a 909 12" double sliding saw yesterday.
The cash is burning a hole in my pocket.
Carbatec container of 700 Kreg K5s to be decimated between the 4 stores (175 per store if decided evenly) rumoured to be landing the 4th of March.
Takes two weeks to clear customs and be delivered to and unpacked at Brisbane store.
Then sent from Brisbane to pre/back/order address'.
Will be trying to confirm today if the container actually made the ship.
LOL. IKR! In this day and age we can't track that? LOL.
If not on that ship then a longer wait.
So three weeks wait at least for pre orders.
No telling how long if you are waiting for it to show up in the shop itself.
P.S.
How do you type Kreg on the internet? K r e g <esc>Thanks,

Barry
You should check with Carbatec to see what that K5 system comes with. A basic K5 doesn't come with any clamps. In my view, a basic K5 has no significant advantage over the K4 to justify the 70 dollars extra expense. You can easily make your own wings with some scrap timber anyway. But one of the picture shows that it comes with 2 quick release clamps which is not a standard configuration. Anyway, you'll need clamps and the one that will be most useful is the angle clamp.
By the way, Timbercon may have stocks right now.

K5 has the clamp in the front.
There is an automaxx clamp for just a few dollars more.
I found that the hole clamp makes the entire setup work properly.
Its just a heap of mucking around getting the clamps just right to keep the joins lined up exactly.
$45 for the 3"..... $55 for the 6" Large ..... $69 for the extra large
$47 for 3" Automaxx..... $66 for the 6" AutoMaxx
$169US for the K5 basic Amazon with exchange rate to $220AU for 10 business day delivery.
But you know you'll be getting it and NOT hoping to get it thru Carbatec.
Timbecon have 5 on order.
They don't know how many have prepaid.
They don't know when they might be getting them in.
I'm hoping I'll either forget about it in the next three weeks or spend it on something else by then. Thanks,

Waited so long for the K5 to come in my hands were hurting.
Used this other pocket hole kit on this project.
Really needed an extra long 1/8" drill bit for the screw hole.
Lucky the vertical rails needed to be stepped back from the front of the post to look good.
And the horizontal behind.
Otherwise I'd have needed to use smaller screws.
I could swear I got this kit from CarbaTec years and years ago.
Might have been from a woodworking show. Thanks,

Barry, you should take advantage of the 11 dollars saving on Amazon and the slightly better exchange rate and buy it from Amazon. You will get that in 2 weeks.
If you're still in need of a long 1/8" drill bit, you can borrow mine. I have a 1/8" x 6" long bit and I just live down the road from Glen Iris.
