Timber Rack -What to use
I cant move in my shed at the moment!!,
I need to build a Timber rack (inside) to get it all up out of the way.
I was going to grab some Unistrut Channel,(Bit Expensive) but I was wondering what you guys use that might be cheaper.
Most of what I have is 2-4 Mtr lengths .Any ideas or pics ??
Thanks
Greg

Use whatever is hanging around,
If you have to buy use gal square steel tube and bolt it together if you haven't got a welder.

Hi Major,
That looks like what I am after.(Rack and clear floor  ) I was going to do some thing like that out of Unistrust Channel, but they wanted about 20 bucks a meter for the stuff plus fittings.. Would have cost me about a $1000
Do the pipes move at all? Can you get them out for adjustment?
Your photo has made me feel even worst .!! Right up the centre of my shed I have about 20 x 3 mter lengths of skirtings etc (For the reno)
I would just love to be able to see the floor.
Whats the rest of your shop like? Any other good ideas.
Thanks
Greg

You have the same problem I had, hence the rack.
The pipes are ¾" water pipe. They are 27mm OD & I used a Frostner bit to drill them. Most were a push fit but a couple tight enough to require a light tap with a hammer.
They can be removed with a bit of persuasion
The rest of the shed is still undergoing some construction/upgrade & will never be finished. I've built a couple of cabinets & have a few more to go & the 6" & 8" pipework is still in the planing stage.

Go the pipe method !
Greg,
I've got a rack just like Major's. I used cypress posts, and black steel tubes with a reasonable wall thickness. Drilled the holes with a spade bit at slightly less than 90 degrees so the pipes had a bit of upward tilt to them. Bolted them to the brick wall, and easy peasy storage. One of the tricks is to make sure the posts rest on the floor, that way most of the weight is in shear (downwards) on the posts, rather than on the wall.
Cheers,
Justin.
