Hi Damien...wonder you didn't notice it already
Between Mike Streets Auto and the Butcher Shop
You can't miss it
Will be bringing home the rest of the standing Camphor as well...maybe another 15-20 odd ton
Was talking to a local last week who mentioned that he used to play in and around the tree when he was a youngster, some 45 years ago.
He recalled it being 'huge' back then and also suggested that it was planted in the 1890's
One of the 'commemorative' plantings(circa 1920) around Woodford is a Camphor Laurel too
It's a 'baby' in size compared to the brute that i am presently tackling
Will be there tomorrow morning if you want to call by and have a chat...MMMapleman

Would have loaded you up with some tasty wood for your help too Rhys
Only have about 5 cuts into the log and it's ready for loading
But of course each cut = blunt chain
One of the Mens Shed helpers has a tungsten tip chain and seems to slice through the dirt without consequence...i said 'crikey' a number of times watching it plunge back and forth into the mud ...MMMapleman

Some beautiful colors even in the plainer stuff
Have a new found respect for the Camphor Laurel
Arguably one of the prettiest timbers on the planet
Very forgiving on the saw as well...pleasure to mill actually
Will be bringing home 2 large chunks tomorrow that will have some very fancy grain
Stay tuned folks...MMMapleman

Love the fact that I can be a part of the milling of this fabulous piece of natures beauty. I was taught some with years ago, that when there is no pleasure in working with exceptional timber it's time to find another hobby. How could one not love to work with timber of this standard
