Stanley Type 10, "Made in England"???
Hi all,
Does anyone know when Stanley began making planes in England?
I thought I read somewhere in these forums that it was in the late 1930's.
The reason I ask is that I saw on e-bay a Stanley No. 4 " Made in England" with 3 patent dates (I think with a low knob)
I know with the U.S.A. ones this would be a type 11 which gives a range between 1910 and 1918.
Any thoughts on this?

Do you have a link to the auction?
It may be an english blade in an older usa plane?

I've seen that auction, I would definitely say the plane is a US made with replaced - made in England blade.
My reference quotes that Stanley bought out JA Chapman in 1936 (who already made planes), although it also quotes that by 1944 braces, breast drills and planes were introduced...
Regards
Steve

I happened across the auction as it was ending, definitely a franken-plane, english blade, turner tote, mismatch lever cap.
Still, it looked to be in good order and should make a fine user for whoever picked it up.
