3 1/2" panel raising router bit.

John, see attached pics. I use the CMT cutter dia = 89mm. I use a piece of 9.5mm MDF as a false table and a MDF fence hollowed out to accommodate the cutter.

Thanks Lesmeyer for your reply, it is the way I intend to go and your confirmation helps my confidence in that direction. I expect I will only take small cuts until I find ultimate depth of cut.

You will see that I have some lines on the sub table. When I raise a panel, I do it in 5 passes. It takes a little longer, but the result is great with only minimal sanding required. Doing it in 5 passes also does not labour the router too much. I go with a set height of the cutter. My kitchen door frames are 21mm thick and the panels are 16mm thick, leaving a 5mm reveal at the back. I have removed the back cutter blade on the cutter as this would be required only if the panels are the same thickness as the frame.
