Cactus Pens
Hellow fellow penturners!
Bdar alerted a number of us to this forum so I decided to check it out and join. I hope you all don't mind a number of us yanks here! Anyway, I did a little search to see if anyone had posted any cactus pens and did not see any. I did find a thread discussing them with a link to my tutorial. I am really glad some of you found it interesting and informative!
Anyway, here are some pics of my cactus pens...I do sell the blanks and have an order to ship to JohnCrane, an Aussie who is a member of Penturners.org and will be sending a pink cactus pen to Toni for Christmas (she asked for it!)

A number of my pens are cactus, but they are made out of a whole variety of timbers (redgum, jarrah, etc etc )
Those look stunning btw - looks like an awesome material to work with!

Curtis, glad you could make it mate. Guys just FYI Curtis is the inventor of the Prickly Pear Cactus pen blank, there are some imitators out there but Curtis is the original and the best when it comes to these blanks. Good to see you.

Cactus:confused:  now thats one I havn't heard of before.
What bit of the cactus? does it have a woody bit? do you have to "do things" to it to make it turnable?
cheersAny thing with sharp teeth eats meat.
Most powertools have sharp teeth.
People are made of meat.
Abrasives can be just as dangerous as a blade.....and 10 times more painfull.

Out of interest - is the cactus the white matrix, and the colour a filler?
Looks to be from the 'stand' used in a number of the pics."Clear, Ease Springs"

Just had a look at the tutorial on how to make the blanks. Looks like a lot of fiddling around but the end result is awsome Curtis.
