Leather Take 2
had another play with the leather on the weekend
Small Workshop Pencil - Camphour Laurel Tips, Chrome Tanned Leather Middle
used a thicker leather this time, about 3-3.5mm
leather is softer and more plyable than wood so when the tools touch it, it sort of moves away from the tool, you just have to use a sharp tool and let the tool do the work and not get carried away pressing harder , you tend to chew the wooden ends away real quick, this happened on the first one
when i got down to almost size i used a fair bit of CA to stabilize and then this turned really well
the finish is CA, lost count of the coats filling up the grooves between the leather pieces
thanks for looking

That's cool
Would suit a chippy with one of those older style leather handled hammers
I imagine you went through half a bottle of CA on that pen, but the results aer worth it!
Cheers,
Dave

I keep telling people that if I can drill a hole in it I can make it into a pen hehe, not sure if that's entirely true but close enough Thats another example pushing the boundaries well done indeed, cheers ~ John

Nice one... one of Lisa's belts is looking better and better each time I see a leather pen
(I don't think she will notice one going missing)It's only a mistake if you don't learn from it.

corbs i think you will find it much easier on the life style if you head down to the op shop and pay $5 for a belt
on the other side of the fence Ebay normally has people selling off cuts of usable size, just make sure that its not 1mm or less, this leather is generally upholstery leather which you will find is way too soft
occasionally a belt manufacturer will put up 3Kg lots for about $10 which are all the edge pieces and man there is a lot of pens in 3Kgs
thanks for the comments
