Hi Steven, that is a lovely frame you have made there.

I am making a bunch of frames from recycled timber from the local Pier. I have a heap of the old railing painted in white, which I intend to resaw so I can keep the outer painted parts for frames. The leftover parts will give me a heap of wonderful timber that I can make some more picture frames, and I am hoping to achieve a finish like yours!!

The local pier timber has been allocated to community groups, so I am going to sell all of my work to raise money for my local club (which I obtained the timber through)! I am aiming to raise minimum $10000 from all of the timber I have received, and not a single piece will go to waste!

    Awesome Pearo,

Great way to raise money for your local club, very ambitious goal to get to $10k, lets hope you achieve and even surpass that figure.

Please keep us posted with pics of your frames. i'd be very interested to see how they come up.

    Steven.

p.s. If anybody else wants to use this thread to show us your recycled works, please feel free. I'd love to see them.

I might even ping you for some advice.

First question is how to get accurate mitres? Handsaw or power saw?

I have been making quite a few picture frames of late so spent a week-end making a jig for the table saw.

    I got the plans from a Fine-Woodworking video here....http://www.finewoodworking.com/item/...picture-frames

Mine was similar but I concentrated on the basics, didn't bother with the hold downs, just made sure it cut accurate mitres.

The ruler made making similar sized frames easily repeatable.

Not that you need such an elaborate jig to make frames, there are a multitude of way to achieve good results.

    Steven.
