That turned out very nicely indeed ! do you think it would have been as well received if it had been of a fit in your hand size ? I doubt it somehow.
Yes definitely drill the hole for mounting it on a plinth whilst it's still a square block, I learned the hard way & wrote off horse with 100+ hours on it years ago !
I'm sure you'll enjoy exploring the possibilities larger work , it does seem get more appreciation generally .

Just a quick post script on the exhibition launch. I and a couple of woodworking mates (one carver, one turner) drove up for the evening. We had a great time. Met a lot of very interesting people and got in a lot of very interesting conversations. Saw a lot of art both in and outside of my comfort zone... but that's what art is all about I guess... stretching the boundaries. A highlight of my evening was meeting Silvio Apponyi who also had work in the exhibition. I've admired his work for many years and it was great to finally meet him. We yarned a bit and he gave me some tips which I found useful.

The response to the whale was good. I talked to a lot of people about it and other stuff I had in the exhibition. Even had the chance to catch up with a chap who bought a walking stick in the SALA exhibition in August. Reckons he's never had a more interesting or comfortable item. Its always nice to get good feedback.

No buyers for the whale but its early days. The exhibition goes till the 24th Dec. Sold a bit of other stuff though. Not a bad indication from just the first night.

Thanks for sharing the experience with me.
